not to sound like an idiot but all i want is a good tasting juice. don’t care about vitamins , ill just stick to my orange juice.
Apple seeds & apricot seeds contain Vitamin B-17, which was and still is used in certain countries, to cure cancer. Actually, the correct name for the chemical structure is amygdalin, which is a nitriloside. Yes, amygdalin does contain cyanide, but, because of how the chemical structure is, it will not be absorbed by your body and will only be used to kill cancer cells if it comes into contact with them. BTW, Vitamin B-12 contains a form of cyanide (cyanocobalamin).
Downing straight cyanide WILL kill you, but not in the form of amygdalin. Did you also know that there are healthy forms of E. Coli which are essential when it comes to absorbing certain vitamins? That’s right. Most forms of E. Coli are actually NOT deadly. Anyway, back to the cyanide issue. Don’t worry about it because, like I said, with the way nature made it, it can only be beneficial to your health. Nitriloside is hydrolyzed to free hydrogen cyanide, benzaldehyde or acetone and sugar.
This occurs largely through the enzyme Beta-glucosidase produced by intestinal bacteria and the body. The HCN that is released [hydrocyanide] is then detoxified by the rhodanese enzyme to a relatively non-toxic molecule called thiocyanate.
In simplified terms, when vitamin B-17 enters the body, it is hydrolyzed only to a very slight degree by body or somatic cells. This is obvious because Vitamin B-17 has been shown to be non-toxic. But even if some of the B-17 is hydrolyzed by body or somatic cells, the very high concentration of the enzyme rhodanese in these cells converts the HCN immediately to relatively non-toxic thiocyanate. So, perhaps the biochemistry will help explain this. Eat your healthy apple and apricot seeds!
The greenstar juices at an extremely low tempature therefore preserving the delicate enzymes that are so healthful for you. I’m not that well versed in these matters but that’s what I’ve come to understand. I eat some of the raw veggies/fruits whole while juicing the others to make sure I get some fiber as well.
just curious – why do you think that juicer your using is better than the Vita-Mix? I just ordered a Vita-Mix partly because you mix everything and you don’t lose any of the vegetables or fruit like you do with some juicers. Most juicers you lose some of the best part of the fruit or vegetables.
